You have the option to add on the following trips to your itinerary:

3 – 4 hour wild nature and landscape tour on super jeep 4×4

On this tour we will drive from Grundarfjörður to the viewing ledge at Kolgrafarfjörður and look for Orca and dolphins. We will then continue on to the bridge to watch the spectacular birdlife and perhaps see seals, killer whales and dolphins. Our drive carries on to a small hot spring and then through Berserkjahraun with a few stops en-route to see the lava and wildlife.

Price £35 – preferential rate for our group members payable in sterling (cash) locally.

6 – 8 hour guided tour around Snæfellsnes Peninsula with local guide

In Grundarfjörður we visit Kirkjufell, one of the 10 most beautiful mountains in the world, and it is. We make a stop at the mountain and get a wonderful view of the waterfall nearby, called Kirkjufellsfoss. The next stop is just outside Hellisandur, called Fiskibyrgi, where we take a short walk into the lava field to look at small stone houses from the 15th century that were used to dry and store fish. From there we will go to Djúpalónsandur, a beautiful pebbled beach with a series of rocks of mysterious form emerging from the ocean. Next we head to Lónsdrangar and the hill Svalþúfa, the remains of a crater which has been eroded to its present form by the sea. On these cliffs puffins and fulmars have their nests. From there we go to Arnarstapi and take a walk to Hellnar (optional). The walk is fairly easy and it takes about 30-40 min (you have the option to stay on or near the bus). The bus will meet you again at Hellnar and we carry on to Rauðfeldsgjá and then Ytri Tunga. The beach near the abandoned farm of Ytri Tunga is well known for its seal colony. If we see seals, they will be friendly and curious and will climb up on the rocks near the sandy beach.

After the trip we drive you to back to your accommodation in Grundarfjörður.

Price £55 – preferential rate for our group members payable in sterling (cash) locally.

Our Whale Watching holidays in west Iceland take place in an area of outstanding natural snowcatbeauty. The incredible geological diversity ranging from slumbering volcanos and majestic waterfalls to a variety of flora and wildlife is there to explore. There are walks, tours and activities available locally which you can add on to your holiday when you are there if you wish. Explore the glacier by snow cat (approx. £77pp), go bird watching or visit the local hot spring. Our guides in the resort will also help you book additional excursions and tours.

Swimming and hot-tubbing are popular activities amongst the locals all year round.  Nearby, the local swimming pool has two hot tubs and a good sized pool with a great view of the mountains.

You can add a visit to the Blue Lagoon to enjoy the hot thermal waters.

Chasing the Lights….

This activity is included as part of the tour, but should you want to have additional trips to see the spectacular Aurora Borealis then this can be arranged through your guide when you are there. They can arrange a “Northern Light Hunting Tour” where you go in search of the lights to areas where the guides have been reliably informed of less cloud cover. This is known as “Chasing the Lights”.
